The Kalalau: 500 hikers a day

Popular for good reason, the 11 mile Kalalau Trail along the Napali Coast in Kauai attracts every level of hiker from babies (in backpacks) to grannies. All stumble up the precarious first couple hundred yards, stop at the Ke’e Beach overlook, decide to turn tail or continue. Much effort has gone into improving trail conditions, however, major drop-offs still exist, no drinkable water is available, and rain is a major cause of most accidents. Sensible shoes, a hiking pole and warm clothing are your friends. Safe journey.
